REQUIRED for
marriage in the Church of All Saints,
Hassop
1. Proof of Baptism. A
certificate from the parish of Baptism, signed within the previous six
month period, as well as a letter from your present parish stating that
the Catholic party is active
there.
2.
Publication of Banns or Dispensation from Banns. Get from the parish of preparation (i.e. where the couple
lives).
3.Proof of
Confirmation and Proof of First Holy Communion. For both parties,
if possible.
4.Pre-nuptial Enquiry. This preparation work is done with the priest/deacon, and
is signed in the presence of the priest/deacon.
5.Firm
date for the marriage. The
arrangement must be made with the priest/deacon at least six
months in advance of the wedding. Do not fix the date until you have discussed it with the
priest/deacon concerned. (Other people may be
getting married on the same day.)
6.Letter
of ‘Freedom’. This may be asked for. The parish of preparation (i.e.
where the couple lives) can issue this.
7.Time! When the marriage preparation is
performed in one diocese but the marriage takes place in another diocese,
the paper work is more complicated. It is important to keep dates in
mind.
8.Pre-marriage course/seminar. This is
a must and the
couple should look around for such courses in their local parish or
diocese. This is considered an essential part but it is not the only
preparation. There will be other meetings with the celebrant of the
wedding and a spiritual preparation should also be planned (e.g. an
afternoon retreat, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, reflection on the
chosen Scripture readings, etc).
9.Organization! The couple must contact all other people involved in
the ceremony, e.g. the organist, sacristan, registrar, etc. A rehearsal is
necessary before the wedding. Kindly note that weddings are not celebrated
on Mondays in Hassop church. Further information is available from the
parish clergy.
